Bhubaneswar: The Indian Meteorological Department has issued Orange warning for thunderstorm and heavy rainfall in many districts of Odisha for the next two days. According to the IMD “Thunderstorm with lightning, and gusty surface wind speed reaching 45- 55 kmph and hail very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Bolangir, Sonepur, Kalahandi, Boudh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Nayagarh, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Jajpur. Also, thunderstorm with lightning and heavy rainfall (7 cm to 11 cm) at one or two places likely over districts of Cuttack, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Khordha, and Dhenkanal.”
Many places of Odisha have received medium to heavy rains in the last 12 hours due to the impact of norwester. Khordha, Sambalpur, Cuttack, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar and Puri received rains bringing respite from heat. The IMD has also issued Yellow Warning for several districts that will receive thunderstorm and rains in the next two days. According to the IMD, “Thunderstorm with lightning and gusty surface wind speed reaching 30- 40 kmph very likely to occur at one or two places over the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Gajapati, Sundargarh, Deogarh and thunderstorm with lightning very likely to occur at one or two places over the rest districts of Odisha.”
