New Delhi: District Magistrates play a pivotal role in governance at the district and grassroots level and act as the real and effective implementers of the various government initiatives and schemes. They are the officials responsible for taking development to the common man. Their achievements mean the people of their respective districts are getting the fruits of good governance.
In recognition to their good efforts, Home Minister Amit Shah yesterday awarded 18 District Magistrates who have made marked contribution to Governance. As part of the Indian Express Excellence In Governance Awards, Odisha’s Chanchal rana and Vishal Singh have been awarded by the Home Minister.
Bolangir Collector-cum-District Magistrate Chanchal Rana was handed over the Indian Express Excellence in Governance Award as the best District Magistrate in India for implementation of “Gender and Inclusion”. Some of the best works initiated by him that got recognition at the awards include the Sweekruti Scheme that aimed at Dignity, inclusion and livelihood for transgender community and bringing them into the fold of social security schemes.
Malkangiri Collector-cum-District Magistrate Vishal Singh was awarded as the Best District Magistrate for Excellence in Governance in the Agriculture category for his micro-irrigation project implemented in 6 villages in Malkangiri district. The very successful and innovative initiative was implemented in the maoist affected areas of the remote villages of Malkangiri and helped over 300 farmers to grow a 2nd crop and increased the household income by 60 percent. The Award was received by Joint Resident Commissioner, Government of Odisha, Sudhanshu Mohanty.
