Indian-origin New Zealand MP Takes Oath in Sanskrit

New Delhi: Indian-origin Dr. Gaurav Sharma, a newly elected member of New Zealand Parliament, today took oath in Sanskrit.

Dr. Sharma (33), who originally hails from Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh, first took oath in NZ’s indigenous Maori language, followed by India’s classical language- Sanskrit, showing deep respect for cultural traditions of both India and New Zealand.

“Dr Gaurav Sharma, one of the youngest, newly elected MP in NZ Parliament took oath today, first in NZ’s indigenous Maori language, followed by India’s classical language- Sanskrit, showing deep respect for cultural traditions of both India and New Zealand,” informed Commission to New Zealand Muktesh Pardeshi.

Sharma, who originally hails from Hamirpur district in Himachal Pradesh, had won the election as a Labour Party candidate from Hamilton West.
