Rourkela: India’s biggest hockey stadium will come up at Odisha’s steel city Rourkela in Sundargarh district within a year.
Odisha Chief Secretary Suresh Mohapatra, Secretary to CM (5T) VK Pandian and Sports and Youth Services Department Director Vineel Krishna today visited the site inside the Biju Patnaik University of Technology (BPUT) campus where the stadium will be constructed.
The proposed stadium will be developed by mid 2022, said the Chief Secretary.
Last month, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had announced a brand-new hockey stadium – the largest in the country – in the steel city of Rourkela.
With a seating capacity of 20,000, the stadium with all the modern amenities imaginable will be built on 15 acres of land at the BPUT campus in the steel city.
The Rourkela stadium will also act as the second venue for the 2023 Hockey World Cup alongside the Kalinga Stadium in the state capital of Bhubaneswar.
