India’s COVID-19 Cases Jump to 3,374, 79 Death Reported So Far: Health Min

New Delhi: The death toll from the novel coronavirus in the country has increased to 79 deaths with 11 of them being reported in 24 hours, the Health Ministry said in a joint press conference with the Indian Council of Medical Research. 

The total number of confirmed cases in India stands at 3,374, including the death and 267 patients who have recovered, the Ministry said.

Maharashtra has seen maximum deaths due to the novel coronavirus and cases continue to surge in the state.

A 21-year-old is the latest case in Mumbai’s Dharavi, one of Asia’s largest slums, even as the total cases have risen to 661 with 32 deaths.

PPEs are imported so there was a shortage initially in the country but the government started taking action in this regard from January onward. Domestic manufacturers have started PPE production and the Health Ministry has also started procuring PPEs from the countries where it is available, says Ministry of Health and Family Welfare’s Joint Secretary Lav Agarwal.

More than 75 lakh people are being provided food. 13.6 lakh workers are being provided shelter and food by their employers and industry, said the Home Ministry.
