Berhampur: Silk City Berhampur – the citadel of weightlifting, that has produced a number of national and international weightlifters for the country for many years, is all set to create history as India’s largest Weightlifting facility all set to be inaugurated.
Keeping in view the contribution of Ganjam to weightlifting in India, the Government of Odisha built the largest and state of the art weightlifting facility of the country at Berhampur.
The Ganjam Weightlifting Academy has 30 platforms with all international modern equipments and facilities. It has a 200 bed Sports hostel. It will be the largest training center for weightlifting in the country. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will be inaugurating the facility shortly.
With focus on developing sports infrastructure across the state, the Government of Odisha led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has been creating mega sporting infrastructure in various places under the 5T Initiatives. Berhampur has a rich history of producing some of the best weightlifters of the country who have won many international medals. The new facility will help nurture new talent and help budding weightlifters with advanced training.
