Abu Dhabi: Two-time IPL champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will see a change of guard as the management revealed that current captain Dinesh Karthik has opted to hand over Knight Riders’ captaincy to Eoin Morgan for IPL 2020.
Dinesh Karthik has informed the KKR management that with a view to focus on his batting and contributing more to the team’s cause, he wishes to handover the team’s captaincy to Eoin Morgan, KKR said in a statement on their website.
Venky Mysore, CEO of KKR said “It takes a lot of courage for someone like him to take a decision such as this. While we were surprised by his decision, we are respectful of his wishes. We are also fortunate that Eoin Morgan, the 2019 World Cup-winning captain (for England), who has been the vice-captain, is willing to lead the side going forward.”
Karthik has served as the captain of the Knight Riders ever since Gautam Gambhir stepped down in IPL 2018. Under his captaincy, KKR have so far won four of their first seven matches this season and are placed fourth on the points table.
