Dubai: Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) continued their winning run as they defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 37 runs in the Indian Premier League at the Dubai International Stadium on Saturday.
Bangalore batting first scored 169 runs for four wickets. RCB had lost the wicket of Aaron Finch (02) in the third over but Virat Kohli took over the innings. Virat Kohli slammed an unbeaten 90 off just 52 balls (4×4, 4×6) in an innings where he seamlessly shifted gears between caution and aggression. He shared a 53-run partnership for the second wicket with opener Devdutt Padikkal (33 off 34 balls). The CSK bowlers had allowed 95 runs in the first 15 overs. Shardul Thakur took two wickets for 40 runs while Deepak Chahar and Sam Karan took one wicket each.
In response, the CSK team could only manage 132 runs for 8 wickets. Ambati Rayudu contributed 42 off 40 balls and Jagadeesan contributed 33 off 28 balls for Chennai. Captain MS Dhoni (10 off 6 balls), Sam Curran (0) and Ravindra Jadeja (7 off 6 balls) all disappointed with the bat as CSK succumbed to their 5th defeat in their seventh game of the season.
RCB bowler Chris Morris, playing the first match, took three wickets for 19 runs. The contribution of Washington Sundar (2/16) was also notable. With this win, RCB moved to the 4th spot in the points table.
