Kalahandi: Former Sarapanch to Undergo One Year Jail in Bribery Case

Bhubaneswar: A former Sarapanch in Kalahandi district has been sentenced to one year imprisonment after her conviction in a bribery case.

Phulmati Majhi, the former Sarapanch of Adri Panchayat, Th. Rampur Block, who was chargesheeted by Odisha Vigilance in a case for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.15,000 from a complainant in order to issue engagement order for the post of Supply Assistant (Jogana Sahayaka) in his favour at Th. Rampur Block, was convicted by Special Judge, Vigilance, Bhawanipatna.
She has been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 year and fine of Rs.2,000.

In default of payment of fine, the former Sarapanch will undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 2 months more for the offence U/s 13(2) r/w 13(1)(d) of PC Act, 1988.
The Court further sentenced her to undergo rigorous imprisonment for a period of 6 months and fine of Rs.1,000/- and in default of payment of fine, to undergo further rigorous imprisonment for a period of 1 month more for the offence U/s 7 PC Act,1988. Both the sentences are to run concurrently.
