Puri: The last rites of Odisha mountaineer Kalpana Das was performed at Swargadwara in pilgrim city of Puri this morning with people across the State paying rich tributes to Everester.
The mortal remains of Das were brought to Bhubaneswar from Nepal via New Delhi on Sunday morning.
The body of the mountaineer was taken to her hometown Dhenkanal after eminent personalities from various fields paid their tributes at Kalinga Stadium in the capital city.
Kalpana passed away on May 23 while descending from the summit after successfully scaling Mount Everest for the second time. Her body was recovered on May 28 and was transported to Kathmandu on May 31.
Kalpana first scaled it in 2008 and later trekked several mountains across Europe, South America, North America and Africa.
