Bhubaneswar: In a shameful act, miscreants have vandalized the statue of legendary leader Biju Patnaik in Cuttack district.
The condemnable incident took place at Hanuman Chowk in Mahanga area of Cuttack district just a day before Biju Jayanati, the birth anniversary of the former Odisha Chief Minister.
As per reports, the statue had been installed over two decades ago.
The locals have condemned the incident and demanded strong action against those responsible for the act of vandalism and the immediate restoration of the statue.
The police has formed a special team to investigate the matter, reports added.
Meanwhile, the Biju Janata Dal has come down heavily on the BJP government over the law and order situation in the state.
In a press briefing, BJD spokesperson Lenin Mohanty said that we are witnessing a strange situation in Odisha. The double engine government has adopted the policy of double violence. There has been growing intolerance in the state.
The senior BJD leader also demanded that the local MLA should apologize for the incident.
