Bhubaneswar: Lighthouse has become a stepping stone for youth career building in the city. Inaugurated on 30th June, Lighthouse has come a long way since then.
As instructed by BMC Mayor Sulochana Das and Commissioner Vijay Amruta Kulange; a meeting was organised under the chairmanship of Addl. Commissioner Laxmikanta Sethi to orient corporators about activities of the centre.
Under Jaga Mission phase three, initiated by Government of Odisha, (HUDD) and Lighthouse communities foundation, Pune and Supported by JSP Foundation, a Lighthouse has been useful sustainable livelihood program for urban disadvantaged youth.
Since June 2022, 335 students have been enrolled in the flagship program; Foundation Course. This course ensures that the youth coming from slums are job ready. After completion, they are put into various skilling courses depending on their interests, skill sets and market availability.
At present there are 151 students enrolled in 12 skilling programmes and 68 have completed skilling and 83 are ongoing. It is expected that by March 2023 it will cover more than 250 trainees.
These vocational courses run for 2-3 months depending on the trades.
Till date, Lighthouse has placed 70+ students. It is estimated to achieve up to 150+ students till March end.
Everyday Lighthouse hosts two full time batches(21 days) from 10am-1pm and 2pm-5pm, one fastrack batch(7 days) 12pm-4pm.
Lighthouse caters to the students for completely free of cost and this includes Spoken English and Digital Literacy.
Today, at Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation, LCF conducted an orientation with corporators where National Head Amruta Bahulekar, State Head Sanjay Ray, Cluster Head Gopal Modani, Placement Manager Mangal Bibhuti Parida and Executive, Sustainable Livelihood Rupsa Majumdar were present.
This will avail new opportunities for the disadvantaged youth and help them earn livelihood in a more dignified way in the formal sector with proper job benefits, Addl Commissioner.
The different Skilling courses offered at Shaheed Nagar- Bhubaneswar Lighthouse are Office, Executive, Accounts Executive, Hotel Management, Beautician, Industrial Sewing Machine Operator(ISMO), Investment Banking and operations, General Duty Assistant, Retail Sales, Graphics and Web Designing, Digital Marketing, etc.
