Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Special Relief Commissioner Pradeep Jena on Thursday alerted that a low to medium flood is likely to hit the coastal districts in the State on Saturday.
In a press briefing, the SRC said that the water level at Hirakud dam is rising due to incessant rain in Chhattisgarh. The inflow into the reservoir is 5.20 lakh cusec and the outflow is 4.80 lakh cusec, he said.
The excess flood water released by Hirakud is likely to reach Mundali by Saturday morning, and eight lakh cusec water will pass by the evening and will reach the lower catchment area by night.
The excess water will pass Kendrapara, Puri and other coastal districts on Saturday night, resulting in a low to moderate flood, the SRC stated.
The government has instructed the district administrations to take necessary steps to face the situation.
30 ODRAF and 12 NDRF teams have been deployed in six districts, he added.
