Mahanadi Water Sharing Dispute: Tribunal Sets Next Hearing on Aug 8

Bhubaneswar: The Mahanadi Water Dispute Tribunal has set the next hearing in a plea filed by Odisha challenging Chhattisgarh’s move of constructing barrages over Mahanadi river to August 6.

The Tribunal has received some additional documents from the Odisha Government on the issue, according to reports.

The Tribunal has asked the Centre to provide the documents to the Chhattisgarh government.

It has heard the petitions from Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, and Maharashtra and framed 40-45 issues relating to the Mahanadi water sharing dispute.

The Tribunal has urged the governments of Odisha and Chhattisgarh to examine each other’s documents.

Earlier, Odisha alleged that the neighboring state has constructed several barrages on the river Mahanadi obstructing the water flow to Odisha and sought stay on the construction and operation of six barrages being built on the Mahanadi river by Chhattisgarh.
