Malkangiri Fast Gearing To Have Air Connectivity; 5T Secretary Shares Video Of Runway Construction

Bhubaneswar: Odisha 5T Secretary VK Pandian took to Instagram today and shared a video of the development of the Malkangiri Airstrip for which the Runway construction work is underway. Once completed, air connectivity will be established with the southern-most part of the state.

The video shared by Pandian shows the construction of the runway for the Malkangiri airport and the connecting roads being developed. It also says that Malkangiri will have an airport soon.

The post also says that “Malkangiri- erstwhile ‘cut off’ area is progressing to join the aviation map of India. #NewOdisha set to fly in new trajectory of development.”

The Odisha government has set an ambitious target to operationalise the proposed airport in the remote tribal-dominated Malkangiri district by January, 2024. The airport would come up over an area of 74 acres of government land, 126 acres of private land and 33 acres of forest land. It will have runway of 1620 meters.

Once completed, the airport will also help in accelerating development works and minimizing maoist impact in the district.

5T Secretary V K Pandian had made a detailed review of the airport project in September and directed senior officials to go for the project on a mission mode.

Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has a special inclination towards the development Malkangiri and the Government of Odisha has taken a number of Development works in the district.
