Stockholm: Three scientists Syukuro Manabe, Klaus Hasselmann and Giorgio Parisi bagged the 2021 Nobel Prize for Physics.
Three Laureates share this year’s Nobel Prize in Physics for their studies of chaotic and apparently random phenomena, the Swedish Academy of Sciences said in a statement.
Syukuro Manabe and Klaus Hasselmann laid the foundation of our knowledge of the Earth’s climate and how humanity influences it. Giorgio Parisi is rewarded for his revolutionary contributions to the theory of disordered materials and random processes, the statement said.
The prestigious award comes with a gold medal and 10 million Swedish kronor (over $1.14 million). The prize money comes from a bequest left by the prize’s creator, Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel, who died in 1895.
Scientists Roger Penrose, Reinhard Genzel and Andrea Ghez won the Nobel physics prize for their discoveries concerning black holes last year.
