Manipur Govt Announces ‘No School Bags’ on Saturdays for Students

New Delhi: In a bid to free the kids from the burden of heavy backpacks on all working Saturdays, the Manipur Government has recently announced ‘No School Bag Day’ for school students in the government, government-aided as well as private schools.

Under the initiative, the school students from class 1 to class 8 have been freed from carrying school bags on every working Saturdays.

The Manipur Government decided to implement No School Bag Day in primary schools of the state keeping in mind the physical and mental effects of carrying heavy school bags.

The initiative is also aimed at addressing the inconveniences, health problems and discomforts that school students go through due to school bags.

Besides, it also aims at promoting other skills among the students apart from textbook learning.

Speaking about the initiative, Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh said, “The world is changing so fast, we must give some liberty to children. After due consideration, the education department took the decision.”

The students of the primary and mid-level school are often found engaged in routine work related to the school curriculum, additional homework and assignments. This leaves young boys and girls with little time for other activities, including games, sports, extra co-curricular activities that help students in personality development, an official release said.

Meanwhile, the ‘No School Bag Day’ initiative has received overwhelming response from students, schools authorities and parents.
