Malkangiri: In its endeavor to empower women and make them self-reliant through entrepreneurship, Mission Shakti has showed that where there is a strong will there is a road ahead. The newest example of another success has come from the remotest area of the state – the Swabhiman Anchal. This time, Mission Shakti has transformed the lives of WSHG members by helping them become agripreneurs.
With the help of Mission Shakti, two Self Help Groups of the district – Maa Bhawani SHG and Parbati SHG of Swabhiman Anchal in Malkangiri have done something that has caught the eyeballs of everybody. The two SHGs were helped by Mission Shakti to set up a turmeric pulverization unit through loans from Chitrakonda BLF. The entrepreneur turned SGH members purchased raw turmeric from the local markets and marketed the processed turmeric powder under the Mission Shakti brand name and packaging.
In just four months since April this year, the two SHGs have processed 17 quintals of turmeric into powder and marketed them at a price of Rs.130 per kg. In just about four months the two SHG group members made a turnover of more than Rs 2 Lakhs.
Negating the challenges of remoteness and being from the hilly areas, these industrious women have set a bright example of successful entrepreneurship. This also shows how the movement called Mission Shakti has become the slogan of women folk in each and every corner of the state.
