Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Saturday reviewed the preparedness of the State to deal with the situation arising out of possible cylone Yass, which is expected to hit the Odisha and West Bengal coasts on May 26.
At the high level meeting attended by Chief Secretary Suresh Chandra Mahapatra, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Jena and other senior officials, the Chief Minister asked them to take every possible measure to tackle the situation.
The Chief Minister also directed the officials to make arrangements for the evacuation of people from affected areas to safer areas.
He also urged the officials to take steps to ensure that oxygen supply should not be interrupted both within and outside the State.
Cyclone Yaas is likely to intensify into a ‘very severe cyclonic storm’ and cross the Odisha and the West Bengal coasts on May 26, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Saturday.
A low pressure area formed over the east-central Bay of Bengal and the adjoining north Andaman Sea on Saturday.
“The low pressure area is very likely to concentrate into a depression over eastcentral Bay of Bengal by tomorrow, the 23rd May morning. It is very likely to move north-northwestwards, intensify into a Cyclonic Storm by 24th May and further into a very severe cyclonic storm during the subsequent 24 hours,” the IMD said.
As many 66 ODRAF 22 NDRFand 177 fire service teams will be deployed in affected areas in Odisha.
