Berhampur: With the implementation of the Mo Sarkar programme under the 5-T model of governance, there has been a noticeable transformation in the healthcare scenario at the state-run hospitals in Ganjam district, especially in the behavior and approach of the medical staffs towards people.
The Mo Sarkar initiative that Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik launched last year with an aim to herald a transformation in the citizen-centric governance is bearing fruits in serving the people in a more professional and dignified manner under an environment of integrity and transparency.
The impact of this people-friendly initiative in the district’s health department can be well accessed from the data given by the Vigilance department.
Ganjam district, which comes under the Berhampur division of Vigilance Department, has witnessed a massive drop in corruption cases against the health department.
The annual fact sheet prepared by the anti-corruption department indicates that there is a decreasing trend in the number of corruption cases in the health department in Ganjam.
The district has registered a total of 4 vigilance cases against the health department in 2019 compared to 7 in the year 2018. Out of the 4 cases, 2 cases are of disproportionate assets and rest two are vigilance-trap cases. There is no mis-case in the last year, the report said.
Speaking to the Newsroom , Santanu Kumar Padhi, Vigilance Additional Superintendent of Police at Berhampur Division, has attributed the reduction in criminal cases against the health department to the Mo Sarkar initiative of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik.
The Mo Sarkar initiative has created an environment in which integrity and honesty prevail and corruption is punished promptly, he said.
The attitude of the people towards government-run hospitals are now fast changing and they are showing absolute trust and confidence on public healthcare system, feels a resident of Berhampur.
Notably, the State Government has implemented the Mo Sarkar programme in the state-run hospitals and police stations before expanding its scope to several other departments.
5T Secretary VK Pandian, who has been instrumental for successful implementation of the Mo Sarkar initiative, has rightly said that no one comes to police station or hospital out of their own volition.
People come to hospitals and police stations in times of distress. So, it is necessary to redress the grievances of people coming to these places, he said.
In order to make the police stations and hospitals accountable and responsive to people’s needs, the Mo Sarkar programme was initially implemented in these two important departments.
Surprise visits to the hospitals by the 5T team to ascertain ground realities there and phone calls to citizens for their feedback about hospitals and medical staffs, grading of officials based on people’s feedback made the Mo Sarkar programme effective in providing service to the people in a dignified and transparent manner in Ganjam district.
