Mumbai Police Issues Summons to Anurag Kashyap in Rape Case

Mumbai: Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap was issued summon by Mumbai Police on Wednesday in the alleged rape case of an actress. The Producer-Director has been asked to appear in the Versova Police Station on Thursday for investigation.

In an FIR registered last week, the actress had accused Kashyap of committing rape, outraging her modesty and wrongfully confining her. She told police that the sexual assault took place seven years ago. The written complaint has been lodged is for the offence of rape, wrongful restrain, wrongful confinement and outraging the modesty of women under sections 376, 354 and 341.

On Tuesday, the actress and her lawyer visited the Versova police station to demand that the complaint be investigated on a priority basis. She also threatened to start a hunger strike unless police arrested Kashyap soon.

The summons were issued a day after the actress met Maharashtra Governor BS Koshyari along with Rajya Sabha MP and Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, who has backed her demand for Mr Kashyap’s arrest and sought Y-plus security for her.
