Bhubaneswar: Today is the 27th death anniversary of legendary politician and former Chief Minister of Odisha Biju Patnaik. Rich tributes were paid by people from all walks of life to the greatest leader and maker of modern Odisha. It has been 27 years since the death of this legendary politician from Odisha. Leaders and people cutting across party lines paid homage to Biju Babu and garlanded his statue at many places in the state. At Sankha Bhawan, leaders of the Biju Janata Dal offered floral tributes to the great leader. Party members are also organizing blood donation camps at various places today to mark the death anniversary of Biju Babu.
An epitome of patriotism, service, sacrifice and Odia Swabhiman, Biju Babu was the greatest leader Odisha has ever seen. Biju Babu was a great statesman and icon of education, industry and health services in Odisha. Biju Janata Dal is observing his death anniversary across the state. At Bhubaneswar, a Tila Tarpana program was organized at the Bindu Sagar by party workers. Hundreds of party workers along with Minister Ashok Panda, MLA Sushant Raut, Anant Narayan Jena, Mayor Sulochana Das, Bhubaneswar MP candidate Manmath Routray offered tributes.
Born in Cuttack on 5th March 1916, Biju Babu breathed his last on 17th April 1997. He was a seasoned politician, aviator and industrialist. He served as the Chief Minister of Odisha from 23rd June 1961 to 2nd October 1963 and again from 5th March 1990 to 15th March 1995. Biju Babu’s role in the development of Odisha is exemplary.
