Naveen Congratulates Odisha Para-athlete Kamalakanta Nayak on Entering Guinness Book of World Records

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has congratulated Odisha para-athlete Kamalakanta Nayak on entering the Guinness Book of World Records by covering maximum distance of 213 km in 24 hours on his manual wheelchair.

“Congratulate para-athlete from Odisha, Kamalakanta Nayak on entering Guinness Book of World Records by covering maximum distance in 24 hours in a manual wheelchair. Your grit amidst all odds is an inspiration for others. Wish you all the best for future”, the CM tweeted.


After a spinal cord injury, the para-athlete was barely able to walk. But, he overcame all difficulties to make a Guinness World Record.

A resident of Puri district, Kamalakanta started his marathon from the Master Canteen Square to Rajmahal Square Cycle Track point on Saturday afternoon and completed it on the day.

Earlier, the highest distance covered by wheelchair in 24 hours was 182.4 km (113.34 miles) which was achieved by Mario Trindade of Portugal at the Vila Real Stadium in Vila Real, Portugal, on December 3-4, 2007.
