Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today congratulated Santhali writer Kali Charan Hembram on being selected for Sahitya Akademi Award 2019.
Hembram has been selected for the prestigious award for his short story book ‘Sisirjali’.
କେନ୍ଦ୍ର ସାହିତ୍ୟ ଏକାଡେମୀ ପୁରସ୍କାର ୨୦୧୯ ପାଇବାକୁ ମନୋନୀତ ହୋଇଥିବା ଓଡ଼ିଶାର ବିଶିଷ୍ଟ ସାନ୍ତାଳୀ ସାହିତ୍ୟିକ କାଳୀଚରଣ ହେମ୍ବ୍ରମଙ୍କୁ ମୋର ଶୁଭେଚ୍ଛା। ସାନ୍ତାଳୀ ସାହିତ୍ୟ ଜଗତର ଅତି ପରିଚିତ ଚେହେରା ଶ୍ରୀ ହେମ୍ବ୍ରମଙ୍କର ଆହୁରି ସଫଳତା କାମନା କରୁଛି।

The book comprises 15 short stories in Santhali language describing the struggle of tribal people and human relationships. Hembram has written many books.
The jury members for selection of the award in Santhali language were Arjun Chandra Hembram, Bhujanga Tudu and Gangadhar Hansdah.
The Odisha CM conveyed his best wishes to Hembram.
Sahitya Akademi announced its annual Sahitya Akademi Awards in 23 languages on Wednesday. Seven books of poetry, four of novel, six of short stories, three of essays and one each of non-fiction, autobiography and biography have won the Sahitya Akademi Awards 2019.
The Awards were recommended by distinguished Jury members representing 23 Indian languages and approved by the Executive Board of the Sahitya Akademi which met today under the Chairmanship of Dr. Chandrashekhar Kambar, President, SahityaAkademi.
Besides Hembram, former bureaucrat Tarun Kanti Mishra has been selected to receive this award for his book ‘Bhaswati’- a collection of short stories in Odia language.
