Bhubaneswar: As the death toll in diarrhea outbreak in Kanas block in Puri district reached six, BJD President and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Assembly Naveen Patnaik has lashed out at the BJP-led state government for failing to control the situation.
Diarrhea has reached a frightening level in Kanas block, putting people’s lives in danger, said Naveen.
Expressing his sadness over the death of six innocent people in the incident, the BJD President said, ““It is a matter of great regret that the government has not taken any strong steps to protect the lives of the people even though the diarrhea outbreak has been reported in the area since January 2”.
The government should provide clean drinking water to the people of the affected areas. If clean drinking water had been provided, this situation would not have happened and the lives of the people would not have been lost, the LoP said.
The diarrhea outbreak has occurred just 50 km from the state capital, yet the government seems to be indifferent to it, he said.
Life is very precious, protecting the lives of people in all situations is the biggest duty of the government. The government should immediately ensure that all steps are taken to protect the lives of people from diarrhea, Naveen added.
