Naveen Pays Humble Tributes to First President of India Dr. Rajendra Prasad on Birth Anniversary

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today paid his humble tributes to great freedom fighter and first President of India, Bharat Ratna Dr. Rajendra Prasad on his birth anniversary.

“Humble tributes to great freedom fighter and first President of India, Bharat Ratna Dr. Rajendra Prasad on his birth anniversary. His Gandhian principles, humility, leadership in drafting our Constitution, and contribution towards nation building will be remembered forever”, the Chief Minister tweeted.


Bharat Ratna Rajendra Prasad was born on this day in 1884 in Ziradei, Bengal Presidency (present-day Bihar).

A supporter of Mahatma Gandhi, Prasad was imprisoned by British authorities during the Salt Satyagraha of 1931 and the Quit India movement of 1942.

Upon independence in 1947, Prasad was elected as President of the Constituent Assembly of India, which prepared the Constitution of India and served as its provisional parliament.
