Niranjan Patnaik Steps Down as OPCC Chief
Bhubaneswar: Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) president Niranjan Patnaik resigned from his post following the grand old party’s disastrous performance in the 2019 elections in the State.
Patnaik tendered his resignation to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) President Rahul Gandhi.
The Congress had failed drastically to revive its fortune in Odisha under the leadership of Patnaik.
The party was pushed to the third spot in the Odisha Assembly with just 9 seats.
Niranjan Patnaik, who contested from two constituencies – Bhandaripokhari and Ghasipura, could not win either of the seat.
He lost Bhandaripokhari seat to BJD candidate Prafulla Samal, while Badri Narayan Patra won the Ghasipura seat.
