New Delhi: The Supreme Court today rejected the review plea filed by Nirbhaya gang rape-and-murder case convict Akshay Kumar Singh seeking review of its 2017 judgment upholding his death penalty.
The SC bench comprising Justices R Banumathi, Ashok Bhushan and AS Bopanna rejected Singh’s petition and upheld the earlier judgement that awarded him death sentence.
“Considering submissions, petitioner tried to sought to assail evidence …these grounds earlier considered and rejected. We have given due consideration to grounds.
Petitioner has sought to assail evidence. These grounds were considered earlier. This cannot be allowed. All these have been examined in trial court, High Court and SC, ” the bench said.
Convict Akshay’s lawyer AP Singh was given 30 minutes to present his case.
