Berhampur: In September 2022-23 FY, the Ganjam district administration launched the innovative Nirikhyana Programme, a visionary initiative aimed at ensuring maternal well-being and healthy baby outcomes.
By providing free ultrasound (USG) tests for pregnant women, the program has become a beacon of hope for thousands of women, particularly in hard-to-reach rural and urban areas. Over the course of its implementation, the Nirikhyana Programme has facilitated 85,000 pregnant women to receive free USG services, conducting a total of 97,698 USG tests to date. The entire process is being facilitated by an app named “Nirikshyana” available in Google play store. This unprecedented initiative ensures that every expectant mother, regardless of geographical or socio-economic barriers, has access to essential prenatal care.
The free USG services have proven to be a game-changer in addressing maternal and child health challenges. By enabling early detection of high-risk pregnancies and potential complications, the program empowers healthcare providers and families to take timely, informed decisions, leading to improved health outcomes for both mothers and babies. The program’s success lies in its inclusive approach, reaching every corner of the district and ensuring no pregnant woman is left behind. With a focus on both urban and rural beneficiaries, Nirikhyana has bridged the gap in healthcare accessibility, particularly in hard-to-reach areas. The tangible outcomes of this initiative underline its impact. Mothers feel more confident and supported during their pregnancy journey, and healthcare providers report a marked improvement in maternal and neonatal health indicators.Nirikhyana stands as a testament to the power of innovative district-level programs in transforming lives and building a healthier future. Ganjam’s leadership and dedication to maternal and child health serve as a model for other regions to emulate. The scheme is appreciated by GoI Maternal Health Team and also looking in to the effective coverage of the scheme the Govt of Odisha funded through “SAMMPurNA” scheme. This “Nirikshyana” received ISO Cirtificate as public benefited scheme.
