Bhubaneswar: NITI Aayog has praised the Odisha Government for its two flagship programmes – Odisha Millets Mission and Mo Upakari Bagicha (my beneficial garden).
In its recent report titled ‘Health & Nutrition Practice Insights’, the national policy body has highlighted the flagship programmes as success stories in Odisha in bringing real change at the grassroots, informed the Odisha Chief Minister’s Office through its Twitter handle.
The national policy body has observed that the Odisha Millet Mission (OMM) effort has led to a rapid increase in the number of farmers growing millets.
Similarly, Mo Upakari Bagicha is improving the dietary diversity among women and children in the State, NITI Aayog said.
Notably, the Odisha Government has launched the OMM in 2017 for promotion of millets in tribal areas of the State.
The OMM is a unique project which focuses on improved production of nutri-cereals, local consumption, procurement under MSP and distribution through PDS.
The Mo Upakari Bagicha programme was launched in October 2019 to promote various kinds of cultivations for eradication of malnutrition from the State.
Under the programme, the State Government encourages people to grow vegetables in their back gardens to get fresh vegetables to meet their need.
