Bhubaneswar: Continuing his focus on development of Western Odisha, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today visited Nuapada and laid foundation stones for important projects and inaugurated projects worth of Rs 4,000 crore for the people.
Addressing people, Patnaik said, “In 1993, Biju Babu had declared Nuapada a separate district and when asked about the reason behind it, Biju Babu had said that Nuapada is the youngest child of mother Odisha which is far away. As every parent love a child staying far away, he is also paying special attention to Nuapada.”
Naveen further said, “Biju Babu’s youngest child, Nuapada, grew up today. It has created a unique identity for itself in the development journey of Odisha.”
Now the Nuapada has become 27 years old youth.
Patnaik said that fluoride contaminated in the water in the district is a major problem and women had to walk miles and miles to get good drinking water.
In Nuapada Rs 220 crore mega lift irrigation projects will be completed by the end of this year which will irrigate around 18 thousand hectares of agricultural land under Komna, Nuapada, Sinapali and Boden blocks of the district, he added.
With the development and irrigation projects, the drought prone Nuapada will turn green, he said.
Since 54 per cent of the district’s 1.5 lakh acres’of agricultural land have now been irrigated, the paddy yield of the district has gone up.
The Chief Minister further announced that a science park and a museum will be set up at the Lower Indra dam site at a cost of Rs 3 crore.
Patnaik also announced to set up two Indoor Stadiums in Nuapada and Khariar. The Sports Facility will be developed at Khariar Autonomous College, he added.
