Bhubaneswar: The Similipal National Park and Tiger Reserve situated in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district remain closed for visitors from June 15.

The decision was taken in view of south-west monsoon which is likely to hit Odisha on June 15.

The entry point of the national park at Lulung in Pithabata forest range and Kalyani in Jashipur forest range will remain closed, a notification issued by the forest department informed.

The national park is closed from mid-June to October 31 every year as monsoon is the mating season of the animals.

Spread over 2,750 sq km, Similipal is the largest Tiger Reserve and the seventh largest national park in the country. It is home to Royal Bengal Tigers and wild elephants.
