Bhubaneswar: The southwest monsoon has officially entered Odisha, bringing welcome relief from the intense heatwave conditions that gripped large parts of the state over the past several weeks.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced that the monsoon has advanced into several northern and coastal districts, including Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore, marking the onset of the rainy season in the state.
With the monsoon gaining momentum, the IMD has forecast light to moderate rainfall across many districts until June 19. The rains are expected to coincide with the three-day Raja Festival, providing much-needed respite from soaring temperatures that had crossed 40 degrees Celsius in several parts of Odisha.
Weather officials said the rainfall activity is likely to bring down day temperatures significantly and improve overall weather conditions across the state.
The arrival of the monsoon is also expected to boost agricultural activities, particularly the commencement of kharif crop sowing, offering relief to farmers who had been awaiting adequate rainfall for field preparation.
Meanwhile, the IMD has issued a yellow warning for several districts, warning of thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds at isolated places. Residents have been advised to remain cautious during adverse weather conditions and follow safety advisories issued by local authorities.
