Bhubaneswar: As many as 26 cases of ‘Tomato Flu’ or HFMD (hand foot and mouth disease) have been found in Odisha, according to State Health director Dr. Bijay Mohapatra.
A total of 26 children in 1-9 years age group have been detected with the viral disease.
As per reports, 36 samples were collected and sent to Regional Medical Research Centre (RMRC), Bhubaneswar, out of which 26 samples were detected with Tomato Flu.
Among the cases, 19 cases are from Bhubaneswar, two from Khordha, three from Puri, and two from Cuttack.
The infected children have been asked to remain in isolation for 5-7 days.
Tomato Flu is a viral disease which causes red rashes, skin irritation, and dehydration. It has some symptoms similar to that of Chikungunya, such as high fever, body ache, joint swelling, fatigue. However, infected children also experience rashes and skin irritation, further causing blisters on parts of the body. Abdominal cramps, nausea, vomiting or diarrhoea, discolouration of the hands, knees, buttocks are some other symptoms.
