Bhubaneswar: As part of its green initiatives, the Odisha Government has introduced paperless Budget from this year.
With this, there will not be any printing of bulk Budget Books thereby reducing paper usage and saving hundreds of trees.
Finance Minister Niranjan Pujari will read the Budget for 2020-21 from Ipad.
The State Finance Department has also developed a mobile app ‘Odisha Budget’ to enable people access budget documents in digital form from anywhere in the world.
Any individual can download the app in android or IOS system to access the documents after the Finance Minister tables the Budget.
All the documents like budget speech in English and Odia, annual financial statement, budget at a glance, explanatory memorandum, revenue receipts, demand for grants and people’s guide can be accessed by using the app.
The decision will result in reducing printing of around 75 lakh pages of paper and directly saving more than a thousand trees.
Earlier commenting on it, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik said that his government is committed to build a green and sustainable future.
Odisha has saved around 1000 big trees by switching over to paperless budgeting in 2020-21 fiscal, he said.
Digital methods reduce printing of at least 75 lakh pages, ultimately saving hundreds of trees, he added.
