Odisha: CCTV to Monitor Traffic Violators, Challans to be Sent to Address

Bhubaneswar: The Commissionerate Police will take strong action against traffic violators and slap hefty fines on any person found violating traffic rules.

Informing this, twin city police commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi said that the police are keeping a close watch on all major thoroughfares in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar to ensure proper implementation of the new Motor Vehicle Act.

He also said that traffic police personnel have been instructed not to argue with the rule violators.

If the violators do not pay the fine in cash on the spot, a fine will be slapped through a challan and sent to their address so that they will pay the cash at the counter of Regional Transport Office (RTO) within a specified timeline, he said.

In case they do not pay the fine, they will have to pay it with interest at the time of depositing the annual tax at the RTO, he added.

The Commissionerate Police will also take the help of technology to ensure proper implementation of traffic rules.

The places where the traffic police are not present, the violators of traffic rules at these places will be identified through CCTV, the Commissioner said.

Initially, the traffic violation detection system will be started from Rupali Square in Bhubaneswar and subsequently extended to other major locations in the city, he further said.
