Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik on Monday expressed his concern over death of six elephants in Karlapat Wildlife Sanctuary in Kalahandi in last two weeks.
While reviewing the the situation over the death elephants, he directed the Forest and Environment Department and the Animal Resources Department to consult experts both from the State and outside over the matter and take remedial steps.
During the meeting it was revealed that the elephants have died after got infected with Pasteurella Multocida bacteria. The infection led to Hemorrhagic Septicemia.
Patnaik directed officials to start vaccination of domestic animals and cattle in and around the sanctuary area.
He also asked the officials to purify the water bodies onsite the sanctuary.
