Odisha CM Takes Historic Decision, Scraps Guard of Honour System in State

Bhubaneswar: In a historic decision, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik today scrapped  the Guard of Honour/House Guard system in the State.

According to a release by the office of Chief Minister,   the the Guard of Honour system will be not applicable to the Chief Minister, ministers and senior government officials henceforth.

However,  the Guard of Honour would be given to the invited chief guests on the occasion of Republic Day, Independence Day and Utkal Diwas.

The President, Vice-President, Prime Minister, Governor, Lokayukta, and Chief Justices and judges of the Supreme Court and High Court will continue to enjoy the guard of honour, the release stated.

Besides, in yet another historic steps, the Odisha Government has directed the authorities and individuals concerned to address veteran freedom fighters as well as persons holding top constitutional posts as ‘Manyabar’.

It may be noted here that  the CM had set a precedent by removing the red beacon from his government vehicle earlier.
