Odisha: Eight People Killed in Rain, Flood-related Mishaps
Bhubaneswar: Eight people were killed in Odisha due to heavy rain and flood-related mishaps, said the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) today.
Odisha has received an average rainfall of over 100 mm in the last 24 hours with Karlamunda block of Kalahandi district registering the maximum rainfall of 608 mm, informed SRC Bishnupada Sethi.
The SRC informed that Bolangir has recorded the maximum 226.3 mm rainfall followed by Boudh (169.7 mm), Kalahandi (160.4 mm), Sonepur (139. 9 mm) and Kandhamal (125 mm) as recorded at 8.30 AM on Monday.
Madanpur-Rampur block of Kalahandi and Gudvella block of Bolangir district recorded more than 400 mm rainfall while four blocks in the districts witnessed rainfall of more than 300 mm, Sethi said.
Four blocks in the two districts recorded rainfall of between 200 and 300 mm and 40 blocks between 100 mm and 200 mm rain, he added.
All major rivers in the state are flowing below the danger level, he stated.
The State Government has deployed seven ODRAF teams along with Fire Service personnel for rescue operation in Boudh, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Malkangiri, Rayagada and Kandhamal districts, the official further stated.
