Odisha Govt Asks Collectors to Submit Preliminary Damage Assessment Report

Bhubaneswar: Hours after super cyclone Amphan crossed Odisha coast, the State Government on Wednesday asked the district collectors to submit damage assessment reports within 48 hours.

Speaking to media, Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) Pradeep Kumar Jena said, “we have asked the district collectors to submit primary reports within 48 hours following which the authorities have to submit a final report.”

When asked about the damage being caused by cyclone, Jena said, “Once we get the preliminary reports from the district collectors, we can precisely say what is the amount to be required and the time frame for restoration”.

The cyclone has caused devastation in coastal districts as a large number of trees have been uprooted and electricity infrastructure has suffered wide spread damage while there was minor damage to telecom infrastructure.

Jena further said that agriculture and horticulture crops have also been damaged due to the cyclone.

Throwing light on restoration, he said that infrastructure restoration work has already started and it will be completed soon.

Over 1.5 lakh people have been evacuated from low-lying areas and thatched and mud houses to cyclone shelters during Amphan.
