Odisha Govt Invites Applications for State-Sponsored Civil Services Coaching Scheme

Bhubaneswar:  In a bid to encourage and provide assistance to poor but talented students in taking civil services as career, the Odisha Government has come up with a state-sponsored UPSC civil services coaching scheme for the students.

The Higher Education Department, Odisha has invited applications for the coaching scheme for the session 2019-20.

The Department has selected New Delhi-based Dhyeya Educational Services Pvt Ltd to run a centre in Bhubaneswar to provide coaching and guidance to students aspiring to appear for All India Civil Services examinations.

It is seen that the success rate of university graduates from Odisha who appear in various national level competitive examinations without any preparatory training, has been dismal. The relatively affluent students travel to Delhi to prepare for Civil Service. The relatively less affluent run around from pillar to post in search of even menial jobs. The situation is particularly bad for students of liberal arts and social sciences, the Department said.

For poor but talented students of Odisha, getting trained in New Delhi by spending considerable amount as fees and living expenses is a far cry, the Department said.

The state government had tried to address this problem by introducing the state-sponsored UPSC civil services coaching scheme, it added.

The scheme will help students who pass out from universities after completing their graduation and post -graduation degrees look for a career in administrative jobs in civil services, banks, insurance sectors as well as in private sectors.

The number of available seats is 100 and coaching will be imparted to students of Odisha only on General Studies papers of Prelims and Mains as per UPSC syllabus.

The coaching fee has been fixed at Rs 82,600, out of which the Higher Education Department will pay Rs 61,950.

The department will bear the entire fee for candidates whose parent’s annual income is less than Rs 2 lakh, a notification issued by the Department said

Common Application Form (CAF) for the scheme became available in the department’s website (dheodisha.gov.in) from today. The last date for applying is June 10.

The selection list will be published on June 12 (4 pm) while the last date of admission of selected applicants is June 20. Coaching classes will commence from June 24, it added.
