Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has decided to continue the usage of the Biju Pacca Ghar Yojana logo on the houses built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana- Gramin along with the logo of the later. This statement comes after the Bharatiya Janata Party legislators created ruckus in the State assembly on the use of the logo on Wednesday.
Clarifying the nitty-gritty and financial pattern in the funding of the scheme, the state government has said that the fund sharing pattern between the Centre and State under PMAYG is 60:40. Since inception of PMAYG, the Centre has released Rs. 9900 crore and the State has released matching State share of Rs. 6600 Crore, a statement said.
The Odisha Government awards incentive of Rs. 20,000 and Rs 10,000 to PMAYG beneficiaries who complete their construction within 4 and 6 months respectively. Odisha has released Rs 1069 Crore for payment of this incentive. Out of this released amount, Rs. 628 Crore has been utilized towards payment of incentive to 3.69 lakhs beneficiaries. Payment of incentive amount of Rs. 441 Crore is under process, the statement said. If the incentive amount is added to the released State Share, the fund sharing between Centre and State comes to the ratio of 56:44. In view of the quantum and percentage of State investment in PMAYG, the State Government has decided to fix Biju Pucca Ghar Yojana Logo along with that of PMAY G.
In the Assembly, replying to the issue, Panchayati Raj Minister Pratap Jena said that there is no proposal to convert the PMAYG into BPGY and as the funds provided by the Center could not match the demand, Odisha has been providing a significant share of the cost.
Citing examples of other states, the minister said, in West Bengal the PMAY has been renamed as Bangla Awas Yojana and in Sikkim and Tamil Nadu the state government is putting the photos of the chief ministers on the doors of the houses given to beneficiaries.
He said there is nothing wrong in putting the BPGY logo as the state is also spending significant amount of money for implementation of the scheme.
