Bhubaneswar: In a remarkable move, the Odisha Government on Tuesday announced to provide more avenues of employment to para-sportspersons in the State.
The State Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has approved a proposal to bring more avenues of employment for Para-sportspersons and Sportspersons in the State government and Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs).
Employment to Para-sportspersons and Sportspersons will be provided in Group A, Group B, and Group C level posts by way of relaxation of conditions for entry and amendment in the recruitment rules, if necessary, an official release said.
The State Government has been taking care of the development and growth of sports in Odisha by way of formulating different proactive policies.
The Government has already provided one percent reservation of posts in the Government and Public Sector Organisations for sportsmen in Group – B , Group – C and Group – D posts for appointment of deserving sportsmen.
It has also extended benefit of reservation for sportsmen enumerated for Group – A (JB ) services / posts in the Government and Public Sector Organisations.
It is now felt necessary to provide for more avenues of employment to sportspersons and para-sportspersons excelling in their respective disciplines. Besides, if such athletes are given due recognition by the State Government, they can serve as models for youngsters to emulate and do better in the field of sports,” the release added.
