Odisha: It’s Now Mandatory for Stage Carriages to Display Route, Fare Chart and Nature of Service 

Cuttack: The Odisha Government has made it mandatory for the stage carriages to display route, fare chart and nature of service inside the bus for convenience of the passengers.

Instances have come to the notice that some of the bus operators are collecting excess fare and not operating services on given routes violating permit conditions causing inconvenience to travelling public. Some of the stage car rages are terminating at intermediate places without touching the destination for which permit is granted, the State Transport Authority (STA) said.

Fare of stage carriages is being revised by this authority from time to time following automatic mechanism keeping in view the interest of both bus operators and travelers Therefore, charging extra fare is totally illegal and unacceptable.

Every passenger has right to know the route on which the vehicle is plying, nature of service and fare payable while boarding the bus. Such information is required to be displayed inside the bus for convenience of passengers.

It is therefore, instructed that all stage carriages plying in the State will display name of route, nature of service, distance and fare payable inside the bus for information of travelling public, the STA mentioned in a circular.
