Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) today said that the Depression over northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining Odisha coast intensified into a Deep Depression and crossed the coast near Chandbali, early this morning.
The IMD issued a red warning for five districts, orange warning for six districts while yellow warning for 11 districts in the State.
The low-pressure area formed yesterday over the central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal now lies as a well-marked low-pressure area over the north-west and adjoining west-central Bay of Bengal with associated cyclonic circulation.
The system is most likely to move northwestwards and concentrate into a depression over the north-west Bay of Bengal off north Odisha and West Bengal coasts during the next 24 hours and then move west-north-west across North Odisha and north Chhattisgarh during subsequent 2-3 days.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy at one or two places over the districts of Sambalpur, Sonepur, Deogarh, Angul and Bargarh.
Heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts for Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Boudh, Keonjhar, Dhenkanal and Cuttack.
Moderate rainfall at one or two places over the districts of Nuapada, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khordha, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur and Mayurbhanj.
