Odisha: NITI Aayog Praises 3 ULBs for Adopting Best Practices in Municipal Solid Waste Management

Bhubaneswar: NITI Aayog has praised three ULBs of Odisha for adopting decentralised management, community participation and robust practices in municipal solid waste management.

The ULBs – Dhenkanal, Kendujhar and Paradip have been featured in the NITI Aayog’s ‘Best Practices in Municipal Solid Waste Management’ report, a comprehensive knowledge repository of how Indian cities are managing their solid waste.

Niti Aayog praised involvement of community through SHGs in Dhenkanal which transformed waste centres into wealth centres, Kendujhar’s adoption of innovative tech and Paradip’s involvement of women & transgender groups to make waste management inclusive and sustainable.

Niti Aayog and the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has released “Waste-wise Cities: Best practices in municipal solid waste management,” report on Tuesday.

India’s solid waste management sector has witnessed unparalleled growth in the last few years. The Swachh Bharat Mission Phase 2 is launched to further strengthen the efforts for a clean India. The report documents best practices from 28 cities in 15 states of India.

The report is the result of a country-wide study and survey jointly conducted by the Aayog and CSE. The repository is the result of five months of extensive on-ground collective research that was initiated in July 2021.
