Bhubaneswar: ‘Paika Bidroha’, an Odia short film based on the India’s first war of Independence, has bagged the special jury award at the 9th Mumbai International Short Film Festival 2020.
The Akshay Parija Production’s short film stars Manoj Mishra as Jayee Rajguru and Samaresh Routray as the legendary Buxi Jagabandhu. They brilliantly portrayed the great history of Odia Paikas.
The film is based on the tumultuous event, the first war of Independence in Indian. It was an armed rebellion against the British East India Company’s rule in 1817, much before the Sepoy Mutiny of 1857.
The Paikas were aliented by the British regiment which took over the hereditary rent-free lands granted to them after the conquest of Khurda. They were also subjected to extortion and oppression at the hands of the company government and its servants.
The film has been directed by Nischay Rout and Anuj Tyagi and written by Haraprasad Das.
