Bhubaneswar: The Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik-led Biju Janata Dal today scripted history by clinching all Zilla Parishad President posts in the State.
This is for the first time the party had bagged the President posts in all 30 ZPs in the State.
The ruling Biju Janata Dal had registered a historic victory in the recently concluded three-tier Panchayat elections by winning record 766 Zilla Parishad zones out of the 851 zones where elections were held.

In 2017, the BJD had formed ZPs in 20 districts whereas the BJP and Congress had won in 8 and two districts respectively.
Yesterday, in another record of shorts for the Biju Janata Dal, its supported candidates were elected as Block Chairmen in 278 Blocks out of the total 314 Blocks.
The Bharatiya Janata Party and the Congress stood far behind with just 21 and 13 Panchayat Samitis respectively. The CPM has won three Panchayat Samitis.
In the recently held Panchayat polls, the Biju Janata Dal had won nearly 90 percent seats in the Zilla Parishad and the Panchayat Samiti elections. The BJP and the Congress could not open their accounts in 17 and 22 districts respectively.
