Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Police today held its first preparatory meeting here for the annual Rath Yatra, which will be observed on July 4.
Presiding over the high-level meeting, DGP R.P Sharma discussed about several security-related issues with senior police officials for the smooth conduct the world famous festival.
Talking to media after the meeting, Sharma said that necessary arrangements are being made to ensure tight security in Puri during the annual festival.
“Due to widespread damage to CCTVs due to recent Cyclone Fani, temporary cameras will be installed to check untoward incidents. Security will be monitored from a control room. Adequate security forces will be deployed for the safety of railway passengers and to maintain law and order during the event,” said the DGP.
A coordination meeting will be held with BSF, CRPF and Coast Guard soon, he added.
The police will also intensify beach patrolling and sea vigil for the annual festival, sources said.
The Odisha Government has been making adequate arrangements to put power, water supply and basic infrastructure in order in Puri, which has been ravaged by the cyclone Fani earlier this month.
