Odisha Police Tightens Drive against Drunken Driving

Cuttack: Intensifying its drive against drunken driving, Odisha police today announced that it would enforce checking of drunken driving at 14 toll gates in the State from this evening under the amended Motor Vehicles act, which was implemented on September 1.

The toll gates at Sheragarh, Panikoili, Dhenkikote, Palaspanga, Ramachandrapur, Pipili, Masunikani, Rajgangpur, Tapanga, Langaleswar, Sasan, Attabira, Balichandrapur and Manguli will be kept under focus as part of the drive, sources said.
The violators will be arrested and prosecuted.

Police DG B.K Sharma has issued elaborate circular defining modalities of enforcement against drunken driving through a circular.

The top cop has directed the concerned police officials to facilitate shifting of stranded passengers of detained vehicles by alternative modes of conveyance.

He also advised showing due courtesy to elderly persons, women, children of such detained vehicles.
As per sources, if alcohol content exceeds 30 mg. per 100 ml. of blood or the drug consumed makes the driver incapable of exercising proper control over the vehicle, the concerned driver will be arrested.

If the arrested person does not furnish required surety/security for bail, he will be forwarded to the jurisdictional court along with the “Prosecution Report” with the signature of 2 witnesses, police said.
